LAHORE, Pakistan (TheSportsNEXT) November 11, 2012: The Oriel Grammar School clinched the Samsung 5th Inter Schools, Colleges Games karate event title with 70 points on the second day of the Games here on Sunday.


Oriel Grammar School played brilliantly in karate event and secured first position while City District Government earned second with 35 points and The Educators was third with 25 points in the team event. In individual school boys’ event, Wajidul Hassan won gold medal in 30kg weight category while Bilal Khan won gold in 35kg, Akbar Khan in 40kg, Talha Anwar in 45kg and Rehan Ali in 45 plus kg. Samiullah Khan won gold medal in individual Kata. In boys’ college karate event, Superior College first position with 125 points, Learner College Shahdara was second with 100 points and LGS Cantt got third position with 40 points. In individual category, Waqas won gold in 50kg weight category, Azam Nazeer in 55kg, Aqib Muneer in 60kg, M Hafeez in 67kg and Asad in 67 plus kg. Azam Nazeer won gold in individual Kata while Superior College won gold in team kata.

In girls’ schools and colleges netball, three teams Beaconhouse Liberty Campus, LGS 55 Main and Ibn-e-Sina qualified for the schools semi-finals while in colleges, Beaconhouse Liberty Campus, Lahore College Women University and LGS 55 Main entered the semi-finals.

LGS Model Town won the final of girls’ team table tennis after defeating Lahore Grammar One-A-One by 3-1 while City School Johar Town beat City School Gulberg to earn third position. In school boys’ events, ISCS School won the final by beating Lahore Learning School by 3-2 while Pak-Turk School edged out LGS Paragon to win the third position. In girls’ college events, Kinnaird College outclassed LGS Defense 3-0 to clinch the title while Govt Islamia College Cantt bagged third position by stunning City School Johar Town. In boys’ college events, Beaconhouse Boys outpaced Beaconhouse Defense to win the final while City School Johar Town secured the third position and LGS Defense Phase I was fourth.

In inter college boys’ lawn tennis event, Govt College Aitcheson beat LGS Phase I 2-1 in the first semi-final while in the second semi-final, DPS thrashed City School 2-0 to qualify for the final. In baseball girls’ school event, Adabistan-e-Sofia claimed the first the position and Alma School got second position.

Punjab Olympic Association secretary Idris Haider Khawaja visited various venues to check the standard and smooth conduct of the Games and directed all the secretaries to improve all the arrangements and try their best to make the event a successful one.

The PbOA secretary told the media that in all, 365 boys schools and 204 colleges, 256 girls’ schools and 131 colleges are taking part in the Games which is a great success of PbOA as the participation is increased as compare to last year’s.
