LAHORE, Pakistan (TheSportsNEXT) December 3, 2012: Teams of Lahore, Sialkot, Karachi and Quetta registered victories in the U19 National Women Cricket Championship here at Lahore Country Club ground A and B on Monday.


At Lahore Country Club Ground A, Lahore U-19 outclassed Rawalpindi by 63 runs. Lahore U-19 scored 126 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Fareeha Mehmood scored 19 runs, Nimra Imran 18 and Natalia Pervaiz 15. Taiba took 2-19 and Faiza Khalid 2-21. In reply, Rawalpindi were all out on 63 runs in 15.4 overs. Only Madeeha Rasheed (16) reached double figures. Kainaat Hafeez bagged 2-13. Fareeha Mehmood and Kainaat Hafeez of Lahore U-19 were jointly named players of the match.

In another match of the day, Sialkot U-19 thrashed Peshawar by eight wickets. Peshawar scored partly 69 runs in 18.5 overs with only Saira scoring 17 runs. Asma Bashir clinched 2-12, Anam Shahzadi 2-12 and Maira Nasir 2-20. Sialkot, in reply, achieved the target in 12.2 overs for the loss of two wickets. Iqra Zawaz was top scorer with 30 runs and Rabia Liaqat made unbeaten 21. Iqra Nawaz was player of the match.

At Lahore Country Club Ground B, Quetta U-19 beat Bahawalpur by two wickets. Bahawalpur scored 98-7 in 20 overs. Aneela Kanwal made uneaten 19, Aman Gul clinched 3-13, Hina Sadiq 2-22 and Seema Malik 2-19. In reply, Quetta chased the target for the loss of eight wickets in 19.1 overs. Aman Gul was top scorer with unbeaten 25 runs while Kanwal Wasy made 20. Samia Khalid got 2-14. Aman Gul of Quetta was declared player of the match.

In another match at the Lahore Country Club ground b, Karachi U-19 downed Hyderabad by six wickets. Hyderabad made 77-7 in 20 overs. Abbottabad achieved the target in 9.5 overs for the loss of five wickets with Rubab Akhtar made 36.

GUANGZHOU, China (TheSportsNEXT) October 31, 2012: Indian women cricket team played out of their skins to successfully defend a small total against arch-rivals Pakistan on Wednesday to clinch the inaugural Asian Cricket Council’s Twenty20 Asia Cup title in China.






Pakistani bowlers did well to restrict Indian women for a total of 81 runs but their batters failed to emulate their performance as Pakistan women cricket team fell 18 runs short of the target.

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first on a slow and low pitch.

Pakistani bowlers made early inroads with Sulakshna Naik (2 from 6) and Anuja Patel (Duck) went back in the pavilion with total at only four runs.

However, Poonam Raut (25 from 28 – 3 fours) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (20 from 33) stabilized the ship with 32 runs partnership for the third wicket which proved the difference between the two sides at the end of the day.

Reema Malhotra (18 from 31) also played a handy knock in the middle order but India women were bowled out for 81 runs from the final delivery of their 20 overs.

Pakistani skipper Sana Mir excelled with the ball as she grabbed four wickets for only 13 runs while Bismah Maroof and Marina Hasan also bowled exceedingly well with figures of 2/14 and 2/8, respectively.

Pakistan lost Qanita Jalil (2 from 5) early but Bismah Maroof (18 from 32 – 2 fours) and skipper Sana Mir (11 from 22 – 2 fours) dug their way into the contention and added 27 runs for the second wicket before Nagarajan Niranjana got rid of Pakistan captain.

Pakistan got panicked after losing their skipper and a flurry of dismissals followed where Nida Dar (1 from 3), Javeria Khan (4 from 9), Marina Iqbal (2 from 6), Asmavia Iqbal (1 from 5), Batool Fatima (1 from 3), and Sadia Yousuf (Duck) all were removed in a flash.

Nain Abidi (13 from 19) tried her bit and Mariam Hasan (8 not out from 10) also stayed their right to the end but lacked support from her teammates as Pakistan women innings was culminated at 63 all out from 19.1 overs.

Archana Das and Nagarajan Niranjana led Indian bowling effort as both grabbed two wickets apiece for 12 and 15 runs, respectively.

Poonam Raut was declared Player of the Final for her responsible knock of 25 runs while Pakistan’s Bismah Maroof was name Player of the Tournament for her consistent performances right throughout the event.


India skipper Mithali Raj, who couldn’t take part in the final due to an injury, told reporters, “So happy for the girls even though I’m disappointed not to have played because of my ankle. Winning this Asia Cup is a great achievement and what’s been special is how our team has become like a family over the years, everyone contributes and plays for each other”.

Pakistan women cricketers achieve record-breaking win in Asia Cup 2012




BEIJING, China (TheSportsNEXT) October 24, 2012: Pakistani women got their ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2012 campaign off to a rollicking start Wednesday when they battered Thailand women by 97 runs at Guanggong International Cricket Stadium in China.

Batting first, Pakistan women scored 129 for seven opening batsman Bismah Maroof (23 from 29 – 1 four), Javeria Khan (33 from 25 – 1 four), and Asmavia Iqbal (18 not out from 14 – 1 four) all coming up with useful contributions.

Three of Pakistani batsmen, i.e. skipper Sana Mir (11 from 18 – 1 four), Javeria Khan, and Mariam Hasan (7 from 6) were caught short of their crease by the Thai women.

In reply, Thailand women were skittled for 32 runs, thanks to a five-wicket haul by Marina Iqbal (5/10) who was also declared Player of the Match for her unplayable bowling spell.

None of the Thai batsmen could manage a score of over 4 runs as three of them got out for a duck.

Qanita Jalil (4-1-5-2), Asmavia Iqbal (3-0-6-1), Sadia Yousuf (2-0-3-0), Sana Mir (2-0-3-0), and Bismah Maroof (1.1-0-3-1) all bowled exceedingly well for the Pakistani women cricket team.

In another match played on Wednesday, Bangladeshi women defeated Chinese women by six wickets with five balls to spare.

China women scored 63 for the loss of six wickets from their 20 overs and Bangladesh women scored 64 for four from 19.1 overs.

Sun Huan (29 from 39 – 1 four) was the top scorer for the hosts while Sun Meng Yao (11 from 24 – 1 four) was the only other batsman to score in double figures.

Panna Ghosh took two wickets for 11 runs while Salma Khatun (4-0-9-1) and Khadija Tul Kubra (4-1-16-1) captured one wicket apiece for Bangladesh women.

Bangladesh opener Sharmin Akhter (27 not out from 42 – 2 fours) led the chase for her side and with Farzana Haque (19 from 37 – 2 fours) and skipper Salma Khatun (10 not out from 11) making useful contributions, the Bangladesh women achieved the target with five balls to spare.

Zhou Haijie grabbed two wickets for eight runs from her four overs while Wang Meng (4-0-16-1) and Yu Miao (3.1-0-12-1) also got a wicket each for China women.

Bangladesh skipper Salma Khatun was declared Player of the Match for her impressive show with bat, ball and captaincy.

GALLE, Sri Lanka (TheSportsNEXT) September 28, 2012: New Zealand and Sri Lankan women cricket teams won their respective matches at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2012 at Galle International Stadium on Friday.

 

New Zealand women defeated South African women by 22 runs whereas Sri Lanka women got the better of West Indies women by 5 runs on Duckworth-Lewis Method in a rain-affected match.

New Zealand scored 151 for 5 and restricted South Africa to 129 for nine while Sri Lanka made 50 for three from 10.3 overs but West Indies could manage 42 for 8 after getting 48 runs target from eight overs due to rain disruption.

LONDON, England (TheSportsNext) September 16, 2012: The West Indies women cricket team defeated England women cricket team by three wickets in a last-ball thriller at Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground Sunday to end the home side’s enormous 21-match unbeaten streak.




 


Batting first, England women scored 139 for 7 as Sarah Taylor, who won the ICC Women’s T20 Cricketer of the Year award on Saturday, scored 34 runs while Kathlene Brunt also contributed 35 runs. A late burst by Danielle Hazell hitting 18 not out from just eight balls helped England to a moderate total.

Shemaine Campbell, Tremayne Smartt, and Anisa Mohammed all captured two wickets each for 30 runs, 27 runs, and 23 runs, respectively, for West Indies

West Indies women achieved the target from the final ball of the match for the loss of seven wickets as Deandra Dottin, who was declared Man of the Match, played a match-winning knock of 62 runs from just 34 balls hitting five massive sixes other than three boundaries. Dottin was ably supported by Juliana Naro who hit 27 not out from 36 to safely make West Indies cross the line from final ball of the 20th over.

HOVE, England (TheSportsNext) September 15, 2012: England women cricketers continued stamping their authority in Twenty20 International cricket here Saturday with an 84-run victory over touring West Indian women cricket team.







 

The English women literally outplayed their West Indian counterparts for the fourth time in the series at Hove to take an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five-match Twenty20 International series.

Batting first, England women scored 154 for three from their 20 overs with Lydia Greenway (61 not out) and Sarah Taylor (43) playing crucial knocks to take the home side to an impressive total.

Stafanie Taylor (4-0-23-2) was the only West Indian bowler with respectable figures.

In reply, the West Indian women never looked in the hunt as they were easily restricted to 70 for eight from their 20 overs, thus falling 84 runs short of victory.

LOUGHBOROUGH, England (TheSportsNext) September 5, 2012: England women cricket team continued enjoying authority in Twenty20 International matches as they defeated touring Pakistani women by seven wickets to win the first T20 International played at Haslegrave Ground in Loughborough on Tuesday.

 


Tuesday’s seven wickets victory over Pakistan was England’s 16th straight triumph in the Twenty20 format of the game.

The victory was mainly attributed to recalled seamer Anya Shrubsole who demolished Pakistani women by taking four wickets for only 12 runs while her fellow spinner Holly Colvin gave away only seven runs from her four overs as Pakistan limped to a total of 87 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Only three Pakistani batsmen could managed score in double figures as Nain Abidi hit 21 runs from 31 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries while the other two players scoring in double figures were Asmavia Iqbal (12 from 13 – 1 six) and Marina Iqbal (19 not out from 12 – 3 fours).

Chasing an easy target of 88 runs, the home side lost opening batsman Laura Marsh for a duck but Sarah Taylor (31 from 25 – 4 fours) and Arran Bindle (31 not out from 42 – 2 fours) made sure that the England women cricket team add another victory to their spree with no trouble.

In the end, England completed the target from 15.5 overs for the loss of only three wickets.

Talking to BBC after the victory, Player of the Match Anya Shrubsole said, “It was a solid start and I was really happy with how I performed, having missed the series against India it was good to get back out there."

After the two-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan, English women cricketers are having a hectic schedule coming up. England will take on West Indies in a five-match T20 series before the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 begins from September 26, 2012 with both England and Pakistan have been placed in Group B.
