AMRITSAR, India (TheSportsNEXT) December 3, 2012: Pakistani kabaddi team defeated uncertainty and Sierra Leone in a confident fashion on Monday as they began their 3rd World Kabaddi Cup campaign off to classy start.


There were question marks hanging on Pakistan’s participation in the World Kabaddi Cup in Indian Punjab but the neighbouring Kabaddi players eventually made it through the Wagah-Attari land border route.

In their first match of the competition played in Hoshiarpur, Pakistan Kabaddi team, which is one of the favorites to win the title, defeated Sierra Leone by 52-12 in a one-sided affair.

Talking to this scribe, Pakistani kabaddi players said that only 16 players were issued Indian visas as against the request for 20 visas but they were confident of beating the very best in the sport in India.

A total of 15 countries are fighting it out for the Kabaddi World Cup title across the Indian Punjab from December 1-15, 2012.

LAHORE, Pakistan (TheSportsNEXT) October 5, 2012: Pakistan won the 2nd Asia Cup Kabbadi title in an unfinished thrilling final 40-31 in the final under lights before a full house of nearly 30,000 spectators.


Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mohammad Iqbal was the chief guest on the occasion. Indian Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukbir Singh Badal was guest of honour and witnessed the absorbing tie with keen interest.

Pakistan were leading 36-31 midway through the second half when Indian ace attacker Sukhvinder Singh raided the Pakistani area for the second successive time, a big technical mistake as a player cannot go for attack for two times in a row.

At this point the match officials intervened and tried to control the situation by listening point of view of both the sides and finally upheld the protest of the home team on which the Indians refused to continue the game, forfeiting the match when ace of Pakistani team, Babar Gujjar entered the Indian area for attack but no one from the opposition made any move and Gujjar returned in jubilation taking Pakistani score to 40-31. Home side folded the first half 22-16 as Pakistani players demonstrated greater anticipation and agility to defy a strong Indian challenge amid roar from a packed gathering.

From home team skipper Musharraf led from the front and received equal support from Sajjad Gujjar, Saddique Butt, Sajjad, Saifullah, Shafiq and Obaidullah who exhibited prowess in attacks. Pakistani players applied forceful grips on occasions to get hold of Indian players to remain focus of attention.

Indian teams most outstanding players were Garveet Singh, Balveer Singh, Naqveer Singh, Gourmeet Singh, Garu Lal Singh, Shalveer Singh , Monogeet Singh, Salvinger Singh, Biljeet Singh and Makasih Kumar.

Despite show casing its best efforts the Indian team failed to equalize and with time tickling away Pakistani team get closer to success but a technical error on part of Indian side spoiled the whole show and a smooth end of the match.

Earlier in a classification match for the third place, Iran thrashed lowly rated Nepal 72-27.

Later the Indian Deputy Chief Minister and Speaker Punjab Assembly gave away the prizes to the winning teams.
