West Indies women end England’s 21-match unbeaten run

LONDON, England (TheSportsNext) September 16, 2012: The West Indies women cricket team defeated England women cricket team by three wickets in a last-ball thriller at Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground Sunday to end the home side’s enormous 21-match unbeaten streak.

 

Batting first, England women scored 139 for 7 as Sarah Taylor, who won the ICC Women’s T20 Cricketer of the Year award on Saturday, scored 34 runs while Kathlene Brunt also contributed 35 runs. A late burst by Danielle Hazell hitting 18 not out from just eight balls helped England to a moderate total.

Shemaine Campbell, Tremayne Smartt, and Anisa Mohammed all captured two wickets each for 30 runs, 27 runs, and 23 runs, respectively, for West Indies

West Indies women achieved the target from the final ball of the match for the loss of seven wickets as Deandra Dottin, who was declared Man of the Match, played a match-winning knock of 62 runs from just 34 balls hitting five massive sixes other than three boundaries. Dottin was ably supported by Juliana Naro who hit 27 not out from 36 to safely make West Indies cross the line from final ball of the 20^th over.

England women take 4-0 lead over West Indies in T20 series

HOVE, England (TheSportsNext) September 15, 2012: England women cricketers continued stamping their authority in Twenty20 International cricket here Saturday with an 84-run victory over touring West Indian women cricket team.

 

The English women literally outplayed their West Indian counterparts for the fourth time in the series at Hove to take an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five-match Twenty20 International series.

Batting first, England women scored 154 for three from their 20 overs with Lydia Greenway (61 not out) and Sarah Taylor (43) playing crucial knocks to take the home side to an impressive total.

Stafanie Taylor (4-0-23-2) was the only West Indian bowler with respectable figures.

In reply, the West Indian women never looked in the hunt as they were easily restricted to 70 for eight from their 20 overs, thus falling 84 runs short of victory.

England women extend T20 winning streak to 16 games

LOUGHBOROUGH, England (TheSportsNext) September 5, 2012: England women cricket team continued enjoying authority in Twenty20 International matches as they defeated touring Pakistani women by seven wickets to win the first T20 International played at Haslegrave Ground in Loughborough on Tuesday.

 

Tuesday’s seven wickets victory over Pakistan was England’s 16^th straight triumph in the Twenty20 format of the game.

The victory was mainly attributed to recalled seamer Anya Shrubsole who demolished Pakistani women by taking four wickets for only 12 runs while her fellow spinner Holly Colvin gave away only seven runs from her four overs as Pakistan limped to a total of 87 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Only three Pakistani batsmen could managed score in double figures as Nain Abidi hit 21 runs from 31 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries while the other two players scoring in double figures were Asmavia Iqbal (12 from 13 – 1 six) and Marina Iqbal (19 not out from 12 – 3 fours).

Chasing an easy target of 88 runs, the home side lost opening batsman Laura Marsh for a duck but Sarah Taylor (31 from 25 – 4 fours) and Arran Bindle (31 not out from 42 – 2 fours) made sure that the England women cricket team add another victory to their spree with no trouble.

In the end, England completed the target from 15.5 overs for the loss of only three wickets.

Talking to BBC after the victory, Player of the Match Anya Shrubsole said, “It was a solid start and I was really happy with how I performed, having missed the series against India it was good to get back out there."

After the two-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan, English women cricketers are having a hectic schedule coming up. England will take on West Indies in a five-match T20 series before the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 begins from September 26, 2012 with both England and Pakistan have been placed in Group B.
