Federer, Murray advance into US Open last-16 in contrast fashion

NEW YORK (TheSportsNext) September 3, 2012: World number on Roger Federer, a five-time US Open champion, exhibited his class with a comfortable 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory over Spaniard Fernando Verdasco on Saturday to storm into the last-16 for the 12^th consecutive year.

Roger Federer meets next Mardy Fish of United States, 23^rdseeded, who despite of hitting 74 unforced errors beat Gilles Simon 6-1 5-7 7-6 (7/5) 6-3.

On the other hand, Andy Murray, who may meet Federer in the semi-final, only managed to secure a place in the last-16 round after a four-hour-long battle over Feliciano Lopez of Spain which he eventually claimed by 7-6 (7/5) 7-6 (7/5) 4-6, 7-6 (7/4).

Murray will now face Milos Raonic of Canada, who is seeded 15^th in the tournament.
