DHAKA, Bangladesh (TheSportsNEXT) October 19, 2012: The newly-installed president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Nazmul Hassan on Thursday urged the national cricket team to improve their game at Test level.
Talking to local media persons here, Nazmul Hassan, who recently replaced AHM Mustafa Kamal after the latter joined the International Cricket Council (ICC) as Vice President, said that spreading the game of cricket in the country in a befitting manner was the biggest challenge for his position.
Identifying the grey areas in Bangladesh cricket, Nazmul Hassan said that the Bangladesh cricket team has been the weakest in the longest version of the game but at the same time he did acknowledge a world of improvement in his side’s performance in the shorter formats.
However, he set high goals for the Bangladesh national cricketers by asking them to improve at the Test level. He said, “We have to focus on how we can do better in the longer version. We have to further popularise the game in the country and bring out cricketers from remote areas. This is going to be my biggest challenge."It is important to mention here that the Bangladesh cricket team has improved immensely in One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals this year as they were runners-up in the Asia Cup 2012 played on their home turf after getting defeated by Pakistan in final by a remote margin. However, the same side failed to impress at the ICC World Twenty20 concluded in Sri Lanka earlier this month.
The biggest issue for the Bangladesh cricket remains the lack of victories or even drawn matches at the Test level where they need to pull up their socks for consistent performances.
