NORTON, Massachusetts (TheSportsNext) September 4, 2012: Rory McIlroy came from nowhere to clinch the Deutsche Bank Championship 2012 title on Monday when he used only five holes to cut down the three-shot deficit.

 

Although, Rory McIlroy won the title but he looked far from his best as he chose to labor on the Labor Day at the TPC Boston as he tore up the turf on a tee shot which could go on for only 170 yards.

Also known as Boy Wonder, McIlroy left himself in a position where he had to make a 6-foot putt to save par from a bunker, and a 5-foot putt to save bogey after a pitch sailed from one side of the green to the other. And after doing all that, he was made to wait for Louis Oosthuizen’s birdie putt which could force a playoff but his shot slide past the hole.

Rory McIlroy told reporters after his wobbling finish, "I had a couple of wobbles coming in, but I obviously did enough and I'm very excited to get a victory”.

The leaderboard was filled with names like Tiger Woods, Oozthuizen, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnson apart from the 23-year-old champion McIlory who with this victory has managed to classify as one of the best golfers around.

Rory McIlroy, fiancée of Dane tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, finished the Deutsche Bank Championship with a 4-under 67 for a one-shot victory over Oosthuizen and joined Tiger Woods as the only three-time winners this year on the PGA Tour.

The Deutsche Bank Championship title has also lifted McIlroy to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup and with one of his triumphs being the PG Championship he is all set to be voted the PGA Tour Player of the Year.

Besides, McIlroy is also enjoying a healthy lead in the world ranking and it would be a tough ask for Tiger Woods or any other golfer to catch up with him until unless Woods claim the next two FedEx Cup competitions.

Oozthuizen had tributes for Rory McIlroy when reporters asked for his opinion. He said, "He's not No. 1 in the world for nothing. He's a great young talent, a lot of majors left for him to win. He's such a cool kid on the course. It's great playing with him. He makes tough shots look really sometimes, especially long irons. I don't think the back nine he hit the ball that great after what he did on the front nine, but he did what he had to do."

Tiger Woods said, "I think we got some interest in the game of golf. A lot more youth, that's for sure."
