LONDON (TheSportsNext) August 29, 2012: England Test captain Andrew Strauss, on Wednesday, announced his retirement from all professional cricket after deliberation of a week following England’s fall from number one spot in the ICC Test Rankings. 

 


England’s captain in One Day Internationals, Alastair Cook has replaced Strauss in the Test format after the retirement.

Andrews Strauss made the announcement in a press conference on Tuesday where he dispelled the impression that Kevin Pietersen episode had anything to do with his decision.

During a 10-year international career, Andrew Strauss, 35, represented England in 100 Test matches scoring 7037 runs at an average of 40.91 besides hitting 21 Test centuries, only one behind England’s record holder Geoff Boycott, Colin Cowdrey, and Wally Hammond. 

Andew Strauss proved one of the most successful England Test captains as he resurrected an indisciplined side to a level where it won 24 out of 50 Test matches played under him.
