SHARJAH (TheSportsNext) August 28, 2012: Australia have lost their only video referral only in the fourth over of their first One Day International match against Pakistan at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.James Pattinson has been bowling well across the leg-stump line and hit Mohammad Hafeez twice on the pads from first three balls of the fourth over of the match. The first one was pitched well outside the leg stump but the second appeal looked quite close and Aussie skipper Michael Clarke decided to challenge umpire Billy Bowden’s decision.
Video replays first judged whether the ball had hit the ball on its way to the pads but found no edge but the next frame showed clearly that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump.
The waste of video referral is quite unfortunate for the Australian cricket team as now they will have to show contentment to the umpire’s decision during the course of their whole bowling.
